Once, many seasons ago, there were four littermates, Fireclaw, Rainfrost, Mistshadow and Hailsong. Fireclaw was the oldest. He was a muscular, courageous ginger tom with amber eyes with a short temper and a love of battle, respecting those with fighting skill and bravery. He won all of his battle except one. Rainfrost was the second-born and the first she-cat. Her dappled fur was pale grey and her eyes were green, and she was proud of her intellect as she was the cleverest of the litter. Rainfrost chose her battles wisely, and fought ruthlessly and skilfully in the battles she did partake in.
Mistshadow was born third, second to last. His smoke-grey fur blended in with the fog he hid in, to hunt, to fight, to spy or just to observe, and only his dark blue eyes were out of place in the thick haze. He valued those with stealth and those who were wily. He rarely began battles, but often ended them, whether with his stealthiness and cunning.
Hailsong was the youngest and smallest. Her pure white fur and golden gaze was unlike any of her kin. She never liked play-fighting and always worried about her siblings getting hurt. She daydreamed and rarely practised her battle skills, preferring to hunt than to fight.
They lived in the mountains, but season after seasons, the conditions became harsher. Kits were born sickly and the cold bit at elders and able guards and hunters alike. It was Fireclaw's idea to move south, where weather was warmer and prey plentiful. However, Hailsong disagreed. The mountains had been where they were born, grown up and fallen in love. But no one else agreed with Hailsong, and so it was decided - they would be dwellers of the mountains no longer.
Many moons after they moved, they formed the Clans. There were the three there are today, FireClan of the pines, RainClan of the redwoods and MistClan of the marshlands. And there was HailClan, of the snowy mountains, further from the Circle of Four Stones than any other Clan. Hailsong was fond of the mountains, where she had been born, and wanted to keep living in mountains, even if they weren't the same ones. HailClan never fought in battles, a Clan of peacemakers, and other Clans disapproved.
One day, the Stone of HailClan was struck down by lightning, reduced to rubble. Fireclaw's, Rainfrost and Mistshadow's Clanmates saw this as an omen - that Hailsongr's Clan must be destroyed as the Fourth Stone had been. But Hailsong's littermates were reluctant to kill their sister, even if she was different from them.
Yet a season later, Hailsong was killed, struck by lightning as the Fourth Stone had been and her Clanmates saw her join and become one with the stars, and named her Hailstar. Fireclaw, Rainfrost and Mistshadow were griefstricken and took part of her name as their own, becoming Firestar, Rainstar, and Miststar.
Hailsong's deputy and former mate, Blizzardtail, in turn, became Blizzardstar, but he was too sorrowful to choose a new deputy for seasons. One day, he died and joined his mate, and HailClan faded away, its cats either becoming loners, living with their mates and kin, or running away to become kittypets. Over time, three rivers formed, flowing into what cats now call the Pool of Stars which is where the Fourth Stone once stood. The fourth Clan was forgotten, and no one alive now knows of HailClan's fate.
Countless sunrises later, the three Clans are still strong, with new leaders and warriors to defend their borders, and it seems that they will survive for many more moons. But a pack of rogues calling themselves HailClan cause tension to rise among the three Clans - are they the real HailClan? Why did they murder Stormstar, the leader of RainClan? Are they seeking revenge for their Clan's first leader's fate? Find out - create your cat and begin the adventure!
